Tombstones

A Tombstone is a point in time in a Scenario where Infrastructure is considered no longer needed.  Infrastructure can be associated with several Tombstones, indicating that there might be a few scenarios where infrastructure is no longer needed.  An example of this would be a Datacentre which isn't needed after a migration to public cloud.

The figure below shows the Tombstone Designer in the Planning Tool.

What is the effect of a Tombstone?

Infrastructure attached to a Tombstone will:

  • Not incur any operating costs after that date in that Scenario.
  • Not incur any recurring capital costs after that date in that Scenario.

What are they for?

Use a Tombstone to model retiring infrastructure when it is no longer needed.
